Nepal GoodWeave Foundation has been continuing the flexible literacy classes for workers above 14 years of age. As the new child labour law (Child Labour Regulation and Prohibition Act 2000) has prohibited the use of child labourers in the worst form of labour, many children (that were already working prior to enforcement of this act) were about to be displaced from the carpet industry. In this context, NGF has been giving continuity to this programme even when support from ILO/IPEC, and The Asia Foundation ceased to come for.
The classes started since December 2006 and so far, 20 classes covering 46 carpet factories have been held providing benefits to more than 1146 workers and 2 more classes are still undergoing at two different factories.
